About AppleBee Guest Cottages
AppleBee Cottages are spacious, spotlessly clean and provide a comfortable home away from home environment in which to relax or conduct your business in the student city of Grahamstown/Makhanda. The cottages are situated in the lovely, quiet neighbourhood of West Hill, with large trees and wonderful birdlife in the garden. There are three spacious, private cottages with their own entrances and an en-suite studio.
AppleBee Guest Cottage I has its own private garden. The accommodation offers a separate main bedroom with a queen bed and 2nd bedroom with twin/king bed. There is a full bathroom with shower and bath. The three-quarter sleeper couch in the lounge enables a total of 5 guests sharing. It is fully self-catering. The dining table doubles up as a table to work at. If offers a 4 plate gas/electric stove, full size fridge/freezer, microwave, plenty of crockery & cutlery, etc.
AppleBee Guest Cottage II is bright and airy. It has a large, carpeted bedroom with plenty of cupboard space. It is airconditioned and has a king/twin beds and a bathroom with shower. The kitchen was recently renovated, and is fully self-catering with a well-equipped kitchenette with gas hob with pots and pans, full fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, electric frying pan, etc. It has a dining area which doubles up as a desk in the lounge open area with comfy lounge seating and a single bed. This units comfortably sleeps 3 guests. However, we can add an extra bed to accommodate 4 guests.
AppleBee III is a lovely sunny space full of windows. It consists of a large, carpeted bedroom with garden and pool view, a king/twin beds and a full bathroom with large shower and bath. There is a single bed in the lounge open area. Please note, the lounge guest needs to pass through the main bedroom to access the bathroom. This cottage is on the front side of the main house, with its own entrance. It is fully self-catering, has a dining table, full fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, 2 plate gas hob with pots and pans, plenty of crockery and cutlery, and an air fryer. This units comfortably sleeps 3 guests. However, we can add an extra bed to accommodate 4 guests.
The AppleBee Annex is our budget-friendly renovated room in the main house with a private entrance available for a single. It has a queen bed in the bedroom and a wet-room en-suite bathroom, a desk, office chair, is set up for semi-self-catering with a microwave, toaster, kettle, bar fridge and single induction plate.
We provide teas, filter coffee, milk, rusks, a choice of cereals and a complimentary fruit bowl. If you prefer, we can supply a lovely hot breakfast in your cottage, on request.
The property is fitted with generators and has borehole water back-up.
Guests are welcome to use the swimming pool and a braai is available on request. DSTV & Netflix is available on flat screen TVs in the lounges and also in the main bedrooms. Complimentary Wi-Fi fibre internet is available. Serviced daily. Electric blankets are available for the chilly months, hair dryers, heating, fans, quality linen, towels and hospitality items are provided in all units. Secure off-street parking with remote access is provided.
A driveway has been opened from Harrismith Street for extra parking for AppleBee I, II & III. The Annex is accessed from the Hare Street side and has it's own allocated inside parking bay.
AppleBee is conveniently situated 50m from St Andrew's Prep, 700m from St Andrew's College, DSG & Amazwi South African Museum of Literature and 1 km from Rhodes University, The Law Courts, the CBD and an easy 5-minute drive to Kingswood College and the Army base.

Directions from the N2 to Grahamstown Makhanda
Turn off the N2 below the 1820 Settlers Monument. Proceed to the first set of traffic lights and turn left into Somerset Street. Continue along Somerset Street past Rhodes University and St Andrew’s College. At the traffic circle bear left and proceed up Cradock Road. Take the third road left into Harrismith Street and AppleBee Guest Cottage is No 5, the fourth house on the right. Please ring the bell at the gooseneck.
Parking for AppleBee I, II and III is from the Harrismith Street entrance.
For the Annex, please proceed one road further to Hare Street, no. 5 (3rd house on the left). Please ring the bell at the pedestrian entrance.
